Soil Aeration
Sometimes when there's frequent activity in your yard (like children
playing,) your lawn can suffer from soil compaction. Soil compaction occurs naturally over time but can increase significantly with overuse of your lawn. With compaction, your soil loses its ability to take in air, water and nutrients to the root system. To give your lawn a boost of "breathing room," you should aerate. You can either buy or rent a machine - either a dethatcher with vertical blades or a core aerator will work. And after you aerate, fertilize and water so that the nutrients can easily reach the root system.
